Introduction to the Wonderful 101 Blog!

The Wonderful 101

Hi, everyone! This is Hideki Kamiya, director of “The Wonderful 101.”
It’s been some time since I directed my last game, “Bayonetta,” and I’ve been busy upholding my name as Twitter Master in the meanwhile. However, it’s about time I unleashed a new game upon the world, so it looks like I’ll finally be able to regain my original title of Game Designer!

Anyway, since “The Wonderful 101” is a completely new game, I’m sure most people out there still have no idea what it’s about, despite the fact that the release date is not too far away. Most people seem to be going “Oh, that’s that game with the ridiculously large crowd of characters running around, right?” or “Wait, is that the game where you play as a dog?” or “Wonderful What? Never heard of it.”

And that’s perfectly fine!

That’s why we’re bringing you this blog: to have fun and share information on “The Wonderful 101!”

If I had to give a brief description of this game, I would say that it’s a simple, pure Action Game in which you become a hero and defeat bad guys. It doesn’t require a lot of deep thought. It’s just that there’s a few… well, a LOT… more heroes than in your average game.
The “101” in the title indicates the number of heroes. The reason we added one number to 100 is that we wanted everyone outside of the TV to become heroes as well. So what kind of actions can you pull off with this many heroes? That’s the question we intend to answer in detail from here on out.

But for today, you’ll have to make do with my introduction. We’ll start telling you more about the actual game in future posts, including loads of screenshots. Of course we won’t just focus on the action: we’ll introduce the characters and story as well. It’ll be a smorgasbord of information, so you’ve got a lot to look forward to!

The next update is just around the corner, so get ready to Unite Up!

Hey, man. I just thought I'd let you know that I am very excited for The Wonderful 101. It's actually overshadowed other amazing games at the moment, which you should be proud of. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say about all of these Heroes.

Of course, I also wouldn't say no to you shipping my an early copy of the game… ;)

There is so much to love in all the games you have directed that I can hardly wait to play your new masterpiece. I have been following this game since it was called Project P-100 and it is the main reason I bought a wii U in the first place.

Thanks for creating games that are not afraid to be challenging and with a ton of personality. I really think Platinum and Nintendo are a match made in heaven and I sure hope we'll see more from the wonderful 100!

Rock on, Kamiya-san!

I LOVE how much personality this game has. It also looks like a lot of love was put into the animations and charming characters, so thank you for the first truly exciting Wii U game. Already buying Day 1 based off the trailers.

Thank you for designing original, challenging games. Will be looking forward to both buying this game day 1 and future posts in this blog. This game flies in the face of other safe, big-budget games, and that makes me look forward to it even more.

I absolutely love Pixar-esque games! We need more stylised, bright, vivid, colorful games like this. I really like how Platinum* uses a different flavor/style for every title. I hope you continue the trend of spiritual successors: Bayonetta (Devil May Cry), Vanquish (PN.03), The Wonderful 101 (Viewtiful Joe), & a spiritual successor to Okami next please! I am extremely grateful for the 5 player co-op announcement (which I always thought The Wonderful 101 would be perfect for). My question: is the whole game co-op or is it separate levels? (please say the whole game). Japanese voice track option please! Oh yeah, still waiting on Vanquish & MG Rising art books & a reprint of The Eyes of Bayonetta please. Thank you PG* for being the best developer in the world!

I just went from six to midnight.

I'm personally planning on preordering the game, but I do have one question as it's one that others have been asking me as well.

Why don't the character models in the game look more like the CG art? Was having a low poly count and and images for mouth movements just part of the art style or will the final version look enhanced? Thanks!

That background in Wonderful Red's picture… wait… is it THAT game?

Anyways, this game looks like it has a lot of potential and looks amazing, when I get a Wii U I will undoubtedly get this game, it's a MUST HAVE, it looks interesting, and has what a Nintendo console needs: Innovation. This game has it, and Wii U really needs innovation, and you guys just did something new, exciting, and innovative. Congrats.
