Bayonetta 2 joins The Wonderful 101 on Wii U

Bayonetta

Filed: Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, Games, PGTV, PlatinumGames, The Wonderful 101

Nintendo held their Wii U Preview on September 13 and PlatinumGames () was there to provide full support.

Hideki Kamiya’s band of heroes are ready for action as Project P-100 (working title) is now THE WONDERFUL 101!

We also surprised fans by finally announcing the much anticipated BAYONETTA 2 was a Wii U exclusive to be published by Nintendo. Bayonetta 2 will be produced by The Wonderful 101’s Atsushi Inaba and directed by Bayonetta producer Yusuke Hashimoto.

Our team wanted to connect with you and give a heads up on this surprising announcement.

On September 13, 2012 Bayonetta 2 was announced as an exclusive title under development for the Wii U during the Nintendo Direct Wii U Presentation held on the same day.
As game developers, we are incredibly excited to be able to announce a new title to all of our fans; however, we are aware that the announcement may have come as a surprise to many of you.
As with Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 is under development and production here at PlatinumGames, and is a true sequel to the acclaimed first game in the series. Bayonetta is one of our most beloved titles, and it played a large part in establishing PlatinumGames as an emerging game studio in the minds of users worldwide. Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of PlatinumGames.
That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with SEGA, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.
Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.
We hope that you will look forward to what we have in store.

Tatsuya Minami
President & CEO, PlatinumGames Inc.

I’m Yusuke Hashimoto, director of Bayonetta 2. It has been three years since Bayonetta, a title I was also a part of… I’m incredibly happy to be able to announce that we are working on a sequel. Alongside Bayonetta’s creator, Hideki Kamiya, I’m working on everything from creating a compelling world to character designs (I will be designing the enemies again), and everyone on our talented team is united around the core of Bayonetta, Climax Action, in an effort push the series forward. For empowering our heroine with incredible new action to introducing new characters (which you may have noticed in the teaser trailer), Bayonetta will further expand on the mythology of the Trinity of Realities – Inferno, Paradiso, and our human world. I can’t wait to take the journey with you.

Yusuke Hashimoto
Director, Bayonetta 2

After Bayonetta was released, I was coming back on the bullet train with Yusuke Hashimoto, pondering various ideas for sequels or spin-offs to Bayonetta over a beer. I never thought we’d actually get to announce a sequel to her story, so I am absolutely over the moon.
Even though there has been a bit of a gap since the release of the last game, but I still got lots of request for a sequel from gamers. We were secretly making one the entire time. While I am not the director of this game, I am still supervising the world, story, characters, etc. in close coordination with Hashimoto, and I have been from the very beginning. You have nothing to worry about on that end. And of course, plenty of members from the first Bayonetta are on-board and working hard under the direction of Hashimoto, so I look forward to work every day, coming in and seeing all the progress they have made on the game. With new hardware, we look forward to expanding on the Climax Action of Bayonetta, so sit tight and get ready!

Hideki Kamiya
Supervisor, Bayonetta 2
Director, Bayonetta

ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT!

Cutie B Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Is it a timed exclusive or permanently exclusive? Any chance of a Sigma style release on other platforms or future sequels on other plaforms?

Nick Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:09 pm

Really excited for The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2! I loved the first one, and I'd say it made me a Platinum fan for life. I look forward to anything you guys make! I'm sure it will be fantastic!

Josh Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I'm so excited for Bayonetta 2!!! I guess I'm getting a Wii U:)

John Williamson Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:20 pm

All of this is fantastic!
But, and not to be rude, I hope The Wonderful 101's logo is just a WIP.

XTCMoose Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Best news in months.
Half-Life 3 can wait, this is what I've been crossing my fingers for.

Im eager to see what will platinum games do with the WiiU. i dont plan on buy one, but i know that platinum never let us down.

meninuigu Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Congratulations about Bayonetta 2. You guys made a Bayonetta's brazilian fan so much happier, but a little anxious to play this new wonderful and amazing game. Keep in touch with any news about the game.

Greetings from Brazil (sorry for my poor english :x)

Aaa Posted on September 14, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Im so happy my favorite game of all time is getting a sequel! Screw the haters! If they really were fans of bayonetta they wouldnt be complaining about this. Sega was planning on cancelling Bayo 2, and in the end, Nintendo swooped in and saved it. thanks guys!

SethGeckoWWE Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:56 am

You're a funny guy, really, so because I already own a 360 and a PS3 and don't have the money to spend $500 for ONE game (because that essentially what buying a console for just ONE game is) means I'm not a real fan?? FU! I don't want a Wii U, I don't need a Wii U, I couldn't care less for the Wii U, the next consoles from MS and Sony will cost me enough. Yeah, but because I own two other consoles means I'm not a real fan of one my FAVOURITE FUCKING GAMES!

BBB Posted on February 4, 2014 at 10:02 pm

I'm No hater, but totally disappointed that a totally over the top game with superb graphics will only released on a underperforming console.
Above that i'm not buying a WiiU only for Baoynetta 2 that would be a waste of money (and graphics)

Humberto Posted on September 14, 2012 at 2:11 pm

I'm glad this game is been made after all. I've had Bayonetta in mind a lot recently and this couldn't come at a better time.

It's a shame that I might not get to play it for a long time after release, though. I'm not well enough off to get a next gen council for just one game. (Mind you, I did just buy a $15 game cube just for PN04 so I do have hope)

Mike Posted on September 14, 2012 at 2:25 pm

I was starting to have doubts that Bayonetta, one of my favorite action games of all time would ever get a sequel. Then suddenly nintendo made the announcment an bam! To say that I was caught completeley off guard would be hardly an understatement. I was hoping it would be announced but the fact that Nintendo is publishing it and that it is a wii-u exclusive I did not see coming. to this I say Thank you! Thank you Hideki, thank you Yusuke, thank you Nintendo, thank you Sega, and especially thank you Platinum Games for making my dreams come true!!! Now all I need is a solid release date for Bayonetta 2, Metal Gear Rising And Anarchy Reigns and I'm set.
yours truly
Mike
p.s.: Ignore any fan right now who feels "betrayed" by this wii-u exclusive announcement. Im sure in time they'll calm own.
p.p.s.: Keep up the good work!

spartacris Posted on September 14, 2012 at 2:44 pm

Bayonetta has become one of my most beloved games of my 20 years enjoying our medium. I am so excited to see what amazing experiences your team takes us along! Thanks for all the good work and hour of fun!

Stebun Posted on September 14, 2012 at 3:02 pm

I'm glad there's finally a sequel considering fans have been begging for one, but I'm devastated that it's a WiiU exclusive. Please, port it to the PS3 and 360!

Smasher Posted on September 14, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Its not ever comming to PS3 and 360,
What part of funded by Nintendo and co-developed dont you understand? Theres no way they can legally port this over.

Bayonetta R.I.P Posted on September 14, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Bayo 2 will bomb under Nintendo. They can not buy their way into the hearts of hardcore gamers. The WiiU is dead on arrival and no hardcore gamers will buy it to play games they can play in the others systems, therefore, a hardcore game like Bayonetta 2 won't sell at all. On the other hand it's a good deal for all three involved: SEGA gets a fat paycheck from NIntendo and retains the I.P., Platinum finish off what was in effect a game canceled half way through development and Nintendo gets a ton of "free" publicity.

DarkLord Posted on September 14, 2012 at 3:37 pm

Timed exclusive will be understandable but restricting it to a specific platform is not good. :(

Dream Theater Posted on April 10, 2013 at 9:28 am

it is a Nintendo game made by Platinum. You can't see a Metroid game on a Sony or MS console, and you can't see an Halo or Killzone on a Nintendo console.

Ernesto Posted on September 14, 2012 at 3:51 pm

You made my day! I absolutely adored the teaser trailer in the Wii U preview!
I was expecting more footage for The Wonderful 101 and then BAM, bullets everywhere.
I just love you, I really do.
Screw the haters and the mean people giving you a hard time right now, you have a world of passionate gamers and fans that will support you and Nintendo everytime.
I can't wait for this game, day one purchase for me!

Isah Posted on September 14, 2012 at 4:37 pm

I hope we can play as the new lumen sage character in game. I giving my blessing!!

fuuuuuuuuuuuu Posted on September 14, 2012 at 5:07 pm

"Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of PlatinumGames."
Bullshit, you just alienated the half of the Bayonetta fans, who don't plan to buy Wii U. Or you think we will buy a console we don't need for 1 game? It doesn't matter how good a game is, I won't give 400$ for a game (console 350$ + game around 50$ + pro controller 50$). It just ain't gonna happen. Establishing a fanbase on PS3/XBOX360, then running with sequel into totally different console, "smart" move to utilize your fans. Thank you for Bayonetta 1 and thank you for the punch in the face with this exclusive.

"p.s.: Ignore any fan right now who feels "betrayed" by this wii-u exclusive announcement. Im sure in time they'll calm own. "
Bullshit, a backstabbing can't be forgotten.

Shenron Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:13 pm

That's stupid. How do you know you won't need the WiiU ? One game isn't enough, sure, but if the WiiU get 5, 10, 15 exclusive interesting titles, won't you need it after all ? Even if it's in a couple of years ?

    Serioulsy…

fuuuuuuuuuuuu Posted on September 15, 2012 at 4:59 pm

You suggest to wait 5 years to see if there are 10-15 game I want to play? And wanting me to buy a console then, when it's lifecycle is at it's end? Also, there is no guarantee that I will be still into gaming 2-3-4 years from now.

Fink Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:57 pm

There's going to be a ton of great content for Nintendo's new system. They've shown a bunch and it's only going to continue throughout the console's lifetime. To buy a WiiU for Bayonetta is a large commitment upfront yes, but any serious gamer who isn't caught up in g'damn immature 'appearances' should know that Nintendo consoles have been quality since the start.

This console cycle is appears Nintendo is working harder than ever to appeal to all kinds of gamers. Stop being a child and give Nintendo some honest respect and consideration. If in the end you decide it's not for you after trying some of their games and such, then fine; but don't dismiss it because of your wrongly-formed misconceptions of what Nintendo is to the industry.

Platinum Games knows what they're doing.

Also, it's not backstabbing, it's business.

fuuuuuuuuuuuu Posted on September 15, 2012 at 5:03 pm

I'm not saying that Nintendo consoles are bad (I even have and only nintendo). But majority of the Wii games (99.9%) do not appeal to me. Wii U will probably have more games, that I'm interested, but that will be like, how 5-10 years from now? Sorry, but I'm not interested in console for 5-10 games in next 5-10 years.

Lagosta Posted on September 14, 2012 at 10:05 pm

    Don't cry, have a lollipop!

LOL Fanboys Posted on September 15, 2012 at 1:32 am

LOL stop crying fanboy and also stop been a FANBOY , just get the WII U and stop CRYING.

caiomorello Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:11 am

Actually i'm going to buy a Wii U just for this.

CrimsonComedian Posted on September 15, 2012 at 6:19 am

It's not a "backstabbing". Sega didn't want to publish it, so Nintendo stepped in. Nintendo saved Bayonetta 2 from becoming nothing more than a dream that would never come true. I'm sure that Platinum would have put it on as many platforms as they could were they given the chance, but red tape and legal matters tend to get in the way of things.

Sinned Posted on September 15, 2012 at 7:40 am

Backstapping? Why do you think Nintendo is funding the sequel?
There is just one reason: Sega didn't want to take the risk.
And what happens, when the Publisher said no? Right Game canceled.
So now rethink on your comment.

It's pretty obvious, that Nintendo is the only reason this sequel is coming out after all.
So instead of blaming the guys, who make this possible (Platinum games and Nintendo) you should blame yourself for such a comment.

Nintendo is funding such a great game to bring it to their console and I think it won't be the last one. When they continue with such great exclusive titles the Wii U will be really awesome!

So Platinum games keep up the great work and I hope, we will see more about Bayonetta2 in the near future :)

Dildo Posted on September 15, 2012 at 8:18 am

    You are 100% right!

Mo Buttons Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:00 pm

It's sad how people don't understand that Sega did cancel Bayonetta 2 and this is the only way we will ever see a sequel.

Gabriel T. Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:18 pm

I imported the PS3 version of Bayonetta because I didn't wanted to wait.
I bought Vanquish day one.
I had pre-ordered Anarchy Reigns on Amazon from February and Metal Gear Rising from April.
I am a LOYAL fan, when the dev is loyal.
Loyal doesn't mean blind or slave.
You DID alienate fans, you backstabbed and punched them in the face.
So I cancelled my pre-orders.
I run a business and I know that the respect for the consumer is something sacred.
Because I can afford the dress I wear, the food I eat because they decided to honour my work instead of the work of someone else.
So, leaving a part of your fanbase cut out is shameful, really shameful, and don't sugar coat it with artistic decision.
That was bad.
THAT IS bad

    BigFranky75 Posted on August 3, 2013 at 1:41 am

Sir…. do you not understand that this was basically out of Platinum Game's (PG) hands? Bayonetta 2 was under development… PG relies on a publisher to release the game…. SEGA was that publisher…. well SEGA puleld out and dropped funding of the project…. no one else wanted to assume the risk of developing the game… PG had basically given up on the dream of realizing this magnificent title….. no one was able to fund its creation…. and then Nintendo came along and offered to fund the game….. what should they have done? declined? they have an amazing game to create and they are supposed to not create it because no one else was willing and had the balls to publish it other than Nintendo… so they should've decided to not release the game altogether? that is just ridiculous! kudos to PG for moving forward on this amazing adventure!

Sedoi Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:23 pm

I hope Plaintum reconsiders. Not everybody can pay huge money for one good game on Wii U. I'm glad it will be made. But please don't take steps of Capcom. With their ignoring the fans they lost major part of their fanbase. Don't do the same…it makes many fans sad that they won't be able to play this game at all. I was Kamiya's fan since first DMC. DMC, Okami and Bayonetta are still my favorite games and now I feel almost desperate, since after DMC lost it original look, now I won't even be able to compensate it with Bayonetta. Exclusives are sure way to lost sales and fans. So, don't ruin your fan base….I hope at least somebody reads it…..

Noel H. Posted on September 14, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Looking forward to the game! Thank you Nintendo for resurrecting the game and thank you Platinum Games for making the best games of this generation! Please ignore the idiotic manchildren who have nothing better to do than troll nonstop.

Kidder Posted on September 14, 2012 at 8:11 pm

"Bullshit, a backstabbing can't be forgotten. " Foolish comment. There would likely be no Bayonetta 2 if Nintendo had not stepped in.

DETfaninATL Posted on March 1, 2013 at 12:08 am

You know what? I'd venture to say 100% of people posting here and elsewhere that are unhappy about it being a Nintendo exclusive, would rather it never have been made than to be a Nintendo exclusive and thus alienating the fans that put the game on the map to begin with. I bet you haven't even considered that, have you?

      bigfranky75 Posted on August 3, 2013 at 1:44 am

haha… well anyone that truly would rather it not be made then be made on nintendo is an embarrassment to humankind and a disgrace to people as a race…. anyone that thinks that way is a fool and has parents tha twere obvious failures.

tytyanus Posted on September 14, 2012 at 8:43 pm

I totally agree the comment before, It's true that a lot of fan asked for a sequel, but try to think 2 seconds, which console the fans had? … … … Platinum Games really think that a xbox/ps3 users will buy a console like wiiu ??? …. good to make games, but not to do business …

Zael Posted on April 10, 2013 at 9:17 am

A lot of gamers have a PS3 and a Wii, or X360 and a Wii. A lot of gamers have also a PC and a Wii.
A lot of gamers will sure buy a Wii U for hardcore games like this, the new Xenoblade or Zelda.

dgnfly Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:06 pm

well there goes any hope for platiunm games being a respective developer. seems bayonetta is now a dead franchise for anybody owning 360/ps3 seems i won't be buying their games at full price anymore.
their so called bullshit about not alienating is totally ridiculous they aren't even kicking those fans in the face but also would mean any fan off platinum games itself will rethink before buying their games cause we might get more sequels on other consoles only.

break Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:12 pm

What a shame won't be getting this, hope platinum (if they're still around) develop something decent like bayon on a real next gen console.

Dave Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Does anyone else feel any nostalgia by the fact that what use to be a Sega franchise is now a Nintendo franchise and the fans are going nuts?

God I miss the 90's

Brute Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:29 pm

All of you so called "true loyal fans" of Bayonetta need to grow a pair and look at the state of the gaming industry. Platinum Games isn't forcing you into buying Bayonetta 2 or a WiiU console. Bayonetta 2 going WiiU exclusive is not PG or Nintendo's fault. Go complain to SEGA, Microsoft and Sony for not funding the project in the first place before you make retarded remarks about "betrayal" and "backstabbing". SEGA could care less about the Bayonetta series. You lot as "loyal fans" should be backing this to show SEGA how much of a true fanbase is behind this critically acclaimed franchise, rather than throwing rotten tomatoes and spamming all the internet with hate and absurd comments. Nintendo saves the series from death and many of you treat it as though it's the end of the world. Grow the fudge up and get over it.

dgnfly Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:56 pm

with bayonetta 2 announced for WiiU only makes platinum games=capcom.

terrible idea Posted on September 14, 2012 at 9:57 pm

The fans are alienated, no need to lie about it.

I love Platinum Games but I am not gonna support this bullshit.

Dennis Posted on September 14, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Thank you Platinum Games for making your creations available to us fans, no matter the platform. Actually, Bayo1 on ps3 was inferior to the 360 counterpart, still I enjoyed it to the point of considering it my most favorite game of all time (And I started playing on an atari 2600 back in the 80s).

I was already getting wii-U for my son AND because of The Wonderful 101, but I wouldnt have hesitated a second to buy it only for bayonetta 2. I can understand the frustration of people who wasnt planning on getting one, but Hideki Kamiya said it on twitter: Platinum Games is a developer; their business is to create great games and to try to make them as widespread as possible. This second part is understandably not entirely in PGs power.

Thanks for getting creativity, challenge and raw awesomeness back into games.

Coin Posted on September 14, 2012 at 10:44 pm

I seriously cannot wait to buy a Wii U after this announcement! Can't wait to see the Nintendo references, the first game was filled with nods to Sega.

Griever Posted on September 14, 2012 at 10:53 pm

I will not buy any games from PLATINUM anymore, and sell all i have in ebay, don't mind the price, this is disgusting politics and disgusting to the fans what was waiting for 2! What kind of behaviour really, just shameless…

CLupula Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:21 pm

I'm sorry, but making the game exclusive does NOT help it grow. All you are doing is turning your backs on the people who supported the original version. If you had made it a three way, multiplatform title, then THAT would be growing your audience.

I'm saddened to see you pulling this sort of thing and I'm even more saddened that I guess it means I won't be experiencing your future games, unless you decide to do the smart thing and port this.

CLupula Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:23 pm

You've basically said that if someone is a fan of the series, you expect them to pay $400 to continue to play it. That isn't right.

Bayonetta Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:24 pm

POURYA Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:36 pm

i am a fan of "bayonetta" but i will never play bayonetta2 on wii u.i will never buy a wii u.you must release the bayonetta2 on XBOX360 and ps3 too.we were the first ones how buy your game.we must be able to play it too.
not fair your work is.

Fredde Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:39 pm

Great news for Bayonetta fans! and especially great news for Nintendo fans who finally get a must have and exclusive hardcore action game! Big Thank You from Sweden!

QGamer Posted on September 14, 2012 at 11:41 pm

All the negative comments are from people I don't consider gamers. Thank You Nintendo for reviving the the series.

True gamers love games no matter what platform of medium it is on. This will be a must buy when it comes out for me.

On another note, do people realize the Wii sold more globally than any other console in history. Of course the sell through numbers are going to decline in the last year. XBOX360 and PS3 are still trying to sell there consoles to get to the same numbers.

I hope Nintendo and PG brings it out on the 3DS as well. The funny thing is that all this controversy is going to help bring Bayonetta 2 to the masses because of all the publicity generated by the announcement. Great PR move that will help the franchise.

So keep the complaining going from these so called "hardcore gamers" LOL

Lee Venajo Posted on September 15, 2012 at 12:26 am

Platinum Games have sold for Nintendo, we (PS3 and Xbox fans) did Bayonetta being what it is today, is a lack of respect for the all fans makes it unique. You exchanged the love of the fans for the money, I promise that I will never buy a game from you again.

Unknown Neo Posted on September 15, 2012 at 1:00 am

I have to say, not only was this a great move by Nintendo, bring back a game that would have been canceled, but for you for making such a big reaction.

I love how people are complaining about this and while I couldn’t play the first game due to not having the system, I want to give you guys money now so I can play this one.

So really, as someone who’s played the Atari 2600 and the first NES when they came out, I am very happy about this. Thank you.

PaRaDoX Posted on September 15, 2012 at 1:47 am

Boy this is great news! I never ahd the chance to play the original but I heard it was good! With PG and Nintendo on board this game will be great!
On a side note: ROFL at all the raging fanboys

yan Posted on September 15, 2012 at 1:53 am

I am Bayonetta fan, but I will never buy a Nintendo kiddy console with 6 year old graphic technology just to play it.

Danny Montenegro Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:07 am

How intersting third parties do this kind of "strategies moves" just for money, Nintendo said opps I did it again keeps good games for its consoles and think "if the games sells bring it" but if dont sell well just forget it. I know Bayonetta bacuase I played it in the PS 3 and hope for this "sequel" but I will not buy a console just for play this sequel. So I will wait for the videos of this game to see them in youtube.

Daniel Leite Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:09 am

Bayonetta 2 *_*!

The wonderful 101 looks awesome too.

Greets from Brazil

KirePod Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:43 am

Yeah! I'm glad to hear that you will have a sequel, but I played it on 360 and Wii U control looks somewhat crude, I think I definitely buy it. Hopefully they have in mind a Vanquish 2. Would make me extremely happy.

Aurel Posted on September 15, 2012 at 2:57 am

It was a great ad. I am very happy to enjoy this game, it finally hit Wii U with Nintendo of editor. As a fan, I just wanted a sequel, and I do not care the system. Thank you.

Dannagar Posted on September 15, 2012 at 3:17 am

Well, I bought the original Beyonetta and enjoyed it. Unfortunately I value Achievement and Trophies. So, looks like you lost a fan. I'll remember this and therefore, I won't be buying any more games by Platinum Games. Good Bye

REALgamer Posted on September 15, 2012 at 3:33 am

I'm super stoked for this game! I can't wait to buy it to show my support..and yes I will be buying all three next gen systems and I'm glad that my WiiU will be getting some third party love!

Max Posted on September 15, 2012 at 3:36 am

I guess the more truthful statement would be "We didn't like the size of the PS3 and Xbox audience we had and instead want to swap it out for potential users of Wii U". Because as this will be Wii U exclusive, not all PS3/Xbox gamers will get a new platform for just Bayonetta 2.

Hopefully title will survive it and make Bayonetta 3 available on _all_ platforms, and not limit it to Wii

Diana Posted on September 15, 2012 at 4:07 am

I hope you end like Mad World !

horizonazure Posted on September 15, 2012 at 4:16 am

Anyone who claims this is backstabbing needs to get a goddamn life.

not buying it. Posted on September 15, 2012 at 5:43 am

I was a big fan of the original Bayonetta. In fact, I even partook in the Penny Arcade Bayonetta challenge, got the t-shirt, and got it signed by Gabe and Tycho when they came to PAX East a few years ago. It doesn't look like I'm buying B2. In fact, PG's decision to go from multi-platform to Wii U exlusive makes me question whether or not I'll ever buy another PG game.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else. this is just for myself. I absolutely do feel alienated. I have zero interest in buying a Wii U. PG's decision to go exclusive means I won't get to play B2. I'm not shelling out $400 for it.

Obviously, people have been complaining or these blog posts would never have happened. But I seriously doubt all this bad PR is going to change anything with PG. So I'm doing the only thing I can. I've written to PG as respectfully as I could and let them know that I will be voting with my wallet. This move has lost them a customer.

dissapointedgamer Posted on September 15, 2012 at 6:42 am

Very saddened by this news as a longtime bayonetta fan and 360 owner. Many of us cannot afford to buy all 3 consoles or can justify buying a console for a single game. It's one thing to make a game exclusive, its another thing to switch consoles midway cutting off all the previous fans. This does not do your real fans any favors. I won't be buying any platinum games again until a version or sigma version of bayonetta 2 is ported to the originating consoles which bore your company it's initial success. This is a good lesson on how to not treat your customers. :(

salarta Posted on September 15, 2012 at 7:11 am

You create the game wherever you need to create it.

The downside is that by not being multiplatform, you do alienate consumers that are not able to spend the money to purchase a brand new console, meaning your sales will be hurt by going exclusive. When the Wii U gets cheaper, the game might sell more, so you'll have to keep that in mind. Nintendo of America has also been something to worry about. They almost didn't let Xenoblade or Last Story come stateside for the Wii, and still refuse to bring over Pandora's Tower, which appears to have a lot of similarity to Bayonetta in terms of gameplay style. That's two levels to be worried about for whether or not Bayonetta 2 will achieve the sales it really needs to garner.

On the plus side, if Nintendo is the only company able and willing to publish the game, then so be it. You go where you need to go. Hopefully, Nintendo of America's policies on almost not letting good games come stateside either have changed a little, or will change with the launch of Wii U.

I anticipate that Bayonetta 2 won't sell as well as Bayonetta because of the variables I mentioned above. Especially if Nintendo of America doesn't publish it here or at least let another company do so. But hopefully it does lead to the franchise growing and becoming amazing in the future.

People should stop being so childish. Bayonetta 2 wasn’t coming out on PS360. Would you rather the game come out on a console you apparently don’t like, or never come out at all? Would you rather Platinum make Wii U games, or no games? Think about things before being self absorbed twats sometimes.

deepthroat Posted on September 15, 2012 at 8:11 am

Platinum Games : don't listen to those so called "fans". Bayonetta 2 on Wii U is a great news ! We'll be there when the time comes :)

Give us The PC version of Bayonetta1&2

Donnaclus Posted on September 15, 2012 at 8:47 pm

It's funny- no one understands that there wasn't gonna be a Bayonetta 2 if it wasn't for Nintendo. Nintendo is paying for the development of the game, without Nintendo the game wouldn't have been developed at all. Personally, I am not interested in Bayonetta, but this is far from a backstab. Bayonetta was a multiplatform, it's only natural a company can get it as an exclusive some time. Seriously, for the fan who feel betrayed and backstab – It's this or nothing. And Platinum Games is satisfied with the deal and getting money, so why nothing? At least the fans that do care about Bayonetta 2 much that they will buy the Wii U can enjoy the experience.

tytyanus Posted on September 15, 2012 at 9:28 pm

this isn't the only way to develop bayonetta 2 … I don't think platinum games couldn't afford it, they actually are developing anarchy reigns and mgs, they could develop bayonetta instead of anarchy reigns…

You guys and girls make the best games on the planet! To Kamiya-sama: can’t wait to play The Wonderful 101! Keep being awesome sensei! Thank you PG!!! Your humble fan from Russia.

Dear Platinum Games, i want to say thank you for all the XBOX-Fans for bringing us Bayonetta 1 and we hope for your future and decision that you do well. We respect your decision to bring this exclusiv to Wii U and cooperate with Nintendo once more after Mad World didn't bring the success for you. We hope this time you will be more statisfied.

For all the angry XBOX-Fans i want to say: People, we have a lot on our console what we even can't play, just think about all the DMC-Games with all the hot babes (HD Colection), and don't forget Castlevania, a awesome Game, now soon the sequel to Lords of Shadow, than Ninja Gaiden, enough on XBOX-LIVE-ARCADE and too much to count all here. Hey, we have CAPCOM!! Please respect the decision of Platinum look for the future and we will see – who knows maybe they gonna do games for us in future too, But like it is now, i wish best for you all on Platinum Games…

Griever Posted on September 17, 2012 at 4:18 am

Dear Platinum, i guess i understand now, it was is big opportunity for you, and i really wish best to you and your stuff. Forgive my too overreacting comment, may be Bayonetta 2 more successfull than Mad World and i hope all the Nintendo Users not gonna disappoint you and just buy the game.

I will not buy a WiiU, because the main support for this console it's on Casual-Games, but i will respcet your decision because i had a lot of Fun with Bayonetta 1 so, good luck for your future, i'm sure you gonna do the job well…

upset gamer Posted on September 17, 2012 at 11:58 pm

You killed Bayonetta. Good job platinum games!!!

Geraldo Posted on September 18, 2012 at 1:18 am

I think Nintendo is important, yes, no doubt, but it has a lot of fans of Bayonetta around the world. These fans deserve respect. There is a case of a game that was initially ported to a platform and available for others, but a game which has become available platform to a still quite technologically updated to be available only to a platform. This is a betrayal to the fans of the game. Reconsider, please. If Nintendo wants the game to its platform, nothing more fair because your users have the right to play a very good game, but does not let you make available to other platforms, as was done previously.

Notfallingforit Posted on September 18, 2012 at 5:42 am

You Sony fanboys have no high ground to stand on. Nor do you deserve any sympathy. You were happy when games like Bayonetta never came to Wii or any Nintendo console. You made fun of Nintendo owners for YEARS. You are arrogant, selfish, greedy, delusional and are one of the prime reasons why Sega left the hardware business. What was your response to Sega's demise? "Buy a PS2!"

Enjoy the karma.

nelson Posted on September 18, 2012 at 6:54 am

this is capitalism an my preferences will be with the console that gives me what i want and i want bayonetta 2,3,4,5………..

Guest Posted on September 18, 2012 at 7:55 am

As a huge fan of Bayonetta this is a huge slap in the face.

I owned the Wii for a couple years before I sold it, always disappointed me. Needless to say, before anyone makes any assumptions, I prefer video games in their natural state (i.e. a regular controller).

I spend the majority of time gaming on my pc, and second on the 360.

I am not buying a Wii U, so that means I am going to miss out on a sequel to one of my favorite games. Bayonetta and the original Devil May Cry are my favorite action games – God of War does not hold a candle to either (I play God of War and just don't see what people like, unless you like Games that are easy I guess).

Heres hoping that they eventually port it to another system. I grew up with Nintendo and loved them, they slowly started to kill my love for them and now I just have zero faith in what they do. Nostalgia only lasts so long……. (/tear /reminisce super metroid)

Platinum Games makes great games but they have to start making better decisions.

Am I reading correctly that they made this choice in hopes for better sales, but than say they hope it doesn't discourage fans? Both of those statements make little to no sense.

Make a game like Mad World and make it for Wii? w t h

Make a game like Bayonetta 2 and make it for Wii U? W T F

Make a game like Project 101 and make it for Wii U? Good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /clap

>:( Posted on September 18, 2012 at 11:47 am

Alienated? Nah, I know Platinum makes great games. Nintendo are the ones who alienated me with the Wii and 3DS. I'm sure they can rebuild that trust, but for me, it will take some time.

The word I would use is "disappointed." I would have made plans to purchase Bayonetta 2, but I'm not planning to buy a Wii U. Maybe some time in the distant future, when I can be more confident about Wii U's longevity, at least as compared to Wii's.

DethStrobe Posted on September 18, 2012 at 2:17 pm

Not to offend, but what is up with the logo for the Wonderful 101? Platinum Games usually has such amazing typography. But Wonderful 101's logo looks so…boring…. I'm hoping its just a place holder.

LENGLIN Posted on September 18, 2012 at 8:35 pm

I am French, I have just learnt the piece of news(short story) for BAYONETTA 2 exclusively NINTENDO, a single word it occur is a scandal, it is shameful. Which treason for the owners of PS3 and XBOX 360 same to whom you owe the success of BAYONETTA. I would not buy the WII U for a single game(set, play) and I suppose that it is case of players' large number. Finally BAYONETTA 2 will work although 1. Better still in near this traitor's blow I would buy never a game(set, play) created by PLATINIUM.

Guest Posted on September 19, 2012 at 12:37 am

Only for Wii U? Sad day. I will never buy a Wii U. I hope no one buys Bayonetta 2.

Dave Posted on September 19, 2012 at 1:53 am

What part of "this game was not going to exist at all had Nintendo not intervened" do you whiners not get? Would you have been happier if Bayonetta 2 was never released? You morons are talking about boycotting PG because you won't be able to play a game (without buying a Wii U) that you never would have been able to play anyways, because nobody would have published it. If you want to be mad at someone, make it Sega, or better yet, make it the average dudebro gamer who won't buy anything other than generic military FPS games, Guitar Hero and its ilk, or annual Madden releases.

UmbraWarSurvivor Posted on September 19, 2012 at 3:06 am

I’m totally excited and glad that we’re getting Bayonetta 2. I’ve got every Platinum/Clover game, and I’m hoping you guys succeed with Project P-100/The Wonderful 101, MGR:Revengeance, and Bayonetta 2.

Max Anarchy was a fun game.

Endless Posted on September 19, 2012 at 5:10 am

They say they want to reach more fans by making it an exclusive, that makes no sense. Nintendo is a console for all ages, however they rarely if ever come out with games like Bayonetta that is brimming with sexuality. Unless Bayonetta is changed dramatically than what we "can" expect from this franchise.

Mark L. Posted on September 19, 2012 at 12:37 pm

This is truly upsetting news. I had no plans of buying a Wii-U and still have no plans to do so. I would honestly rather wait to play it once it is released on other consoles…even if it takes a few years. I do not know if the rumors about Sega dropping Bayonetta 2 are true or not but if they are that was a stupid move on their part and I'm sorry that Platinum has to suffer for it. I realize my not purchasing a Wii-U to buy the game does not support Platinum's growth/stability but all the same, it does not seem right for a company to assume that its fans will quickly follow them to ANOTHER expensive console purchase after this previous generations high console costs. Also, if Nintendo was truly in favor of leading the way for the future of gaming they would not make this game an exclusive only for Nintendo, maybe upon release for a year or so it would be to help boost sales to a system that I feel (and I'm sure others do also) is not worth the investment. I hope that Platinum will try to fight for us (PS3/Xbox 360) users so that a port/release is made after Wii-U sales have leveled out…that would be the best scenario to ensure platinum does not loose out on a franchise that quite frankly is among the elites that you just don't see coming out these days.

Ignus Posted on September 21, 2012 at 8:32 am

I feel so disappointed with this decision.

I loved the first Bayonetta game and I was eagerly awaiting the sequel.

But I have no interest in buying the WiiU. I’ve read the specs, the options and the catalog of the console, and I don’t really feel I want to buy it. Even if it has such a great game like Bayonetta 2, one game it’s not enough for me to justify such purchase.

And although I’m not buying the game, I hope it remains true to the original. I want it to keep its excellent gameplay and not to be downgraded to these motion controllers and touchscreen gimmicks.

I wish good luck to Platinum Games in this exclusive market.

And I really hope this is not the last Bayonetta game we’ll ever see.

Bayonetta Fan Posted on September 22, 2012 at 10:54 am

I would love Bayonetta 2 so much that i consider buying Wii U for her!!! I have a Wii console and i think that it is really fun (although the graphics sucks),but graphics aren't important to me.So i think that Wii U will be better than Wii and i am buying it….But i do hope that Bayonetta 2 has the same or better full action, combos, dodge offset and many new weapons and maybe can play co-op mode with Jeanne!! I would really love that!!! PS3 and Xbox fans and Bayonetta fans, stop criticizing Wii U and Bayonetta 2 because of the graphics Wii gives,i know that you think that NIntendo sucks but the gameplay in Wii is really something to be appreciated and to be rememcered…I have both PS3 and Wii and i love them both. Please don't back stab our beloved Bayonetta, she's just moving to a new console and era to realize her own true potential. She will be the same in every console for me…cause she is Bayonetta.
And please stop complaining and threatening Platinum games about Bayonetta 2 as Wii U exclusive, cause Bayonetta 2 would not exist without cooperation with Nintendo…. Appreciate and love the games, not consoles. NIntendo and Sony both have their own games, and we need to love them both,as if they do not exist, games will not exist.Nintendo and Sony need both as their own competitor to produce more good games for themselves.Bayonetta, I am coming!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Muacks!!!

Angel Lover Posted on September 22, 2012 at 11:00 am

I wish that the monsters are still unique, like the angels, not zombies, devils, demons……I love Bayonetta because the monsters are unique, not like DMC and other games. The monsters are what make it looks unique.

F*** THIS Posted on September 24, 2012 at 6:13 am

ya this is sad for the fans, not on playstation really !!! im not going to buy wii U

Bay2OnWiiU4Life Posted on October 7, 2012 at 1:05 pm

As a loyal fan of the Bayonetta franchise, it's gonna be a great pleasure and honor for Nintendo to exclusively publish Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U. I don't care if it's released in December or next year, I'm so looking forward to purchase that game. I hope your company and Nintendo produce and develop another Bayonetta title for the Wii U in the near future.

Koohii2wii Posted on October 18, 2012 at 3:33 pm

Facts:
1) The game would have never come out without Nintendo help.
2) Published by Nintendo probably means Nintendo owns the IP now, so chances are at most it could go to 3DS as well.
3) Based on other comments about PG's previous games on 360/PS3…. So a developer has to keep making games on those console? Just pretend this same announcement was made and at the end of the video it said like "Xbox720" or "PS4"………Would you not have to get a NEW console anyways?
4) Support Platinum Games
Either way this game probably come at 2013 Holiday anyways, by that time you should have more then enough reasons to get a WiiU.

Exclusive brings sad Posted on November 9, 2012 at 10:52 pm

So the problem is this, you make something that PS3 and xB can enjoy then take it away. While I appreciate that this move keeps the game alive, it does alienate all the folks that loved the original. What PG is doing is trading the loyal fanbase for the untried fanbase on Wii. Bayonetta was easily the best, most rewarding game I every played. NG2 has the great combat but as a game, B was the best. This means that I am not giving them my money which I would have gladly spent. It saddens me greatly. I know that Nintendo is trying to sell consoles but the only ones happy with this are the ones that would have bought the console anyway. The rest must take this as a jagged little pill. It makes me terribly sad. I think the smartest move would be to ride the exclusive for a while then when sales drop off, port it. That would make me and lots of folks happy. At that point, all the major work is done. I would be happy to wait and would do so without complaint and so would the rest of the folks most likely. I think the hate would stop. just my two coppers.

Erowind Posted on November 20, 2012 at 2:46 am

Well soon (probably not much after game release) Nintendo will buy you guys after you get litle money out of this. Awesome move from Nintendo on make you guys make this weird move. Lost your fans base gaved Nintendo free advertising. Face slap your community isn't really a good move imo, still you can keep your jobs for some more time.

JOSHI the Drako Posted on November 27, 2012 at 7:44 am

Well.

1. Nintendo saved this franchise.
2. Every REAL gamer has every new console anyway OR simply accepts not to be able to play games on it.
3. Talk about loyalty, you want to know what my first console was from? Nintendo.
You want to know what business is the only one left to make good games by itself? Nintendo.
You want to know which business is innovating things instead of just doing the same thing over and over again? Nintendo.
If any business deserves this innovative franchise as an exclusive, then it is Nintendo.

A strong believer Posted on December 30, 2012 at 10:41 am

The fun I was having with video games before didn't even compare with the fun I had with Bayonetta and frankly, I didn't think it was possible with modern games. But you did the impossible. Judging by how insanely dedicated you are to details, fans and following game-philosophy, I'd say Rising will also be a real crowd-pleaser. I admire you guys, because you see games for what they are truly supposed to be. Never die, Platinum. I'm putting a lot of trust in you guys, and I have a strong feeling that trust isn't misplaced.

It's a miracle this game was saved at all. So shut the fuck up. I bet you wouldn't be acting like a dumb fucking bitch if this was ura Zelda. So you fags (south park definition) shut the fuck up and stop acting like kyles mom or suck my mother fucking balls. You god fucking racist commuist republicans ass up or go to fucking hell. I would use the n word if it meant dumb commuist asshole.

A concerned fan Posted on January 10, 2013 at 8:52 am

I know this is really after the fact, but I feel a need to say something as a huge fan of Bayonetta. Bayonetta was without a doubt one of my favorite games ever and easily the best action game I ever played, so hearing about Bayonetta 2 immediately excited me. However my joy was destroyed when I learned it was exclusive to the Wii U. I know that Nintendo picked it up after it was dropped by Sega and almost never existed at all, but I will never be able to play it. I own a PS3 and plan on staying with Sony who offers the largest variety of exclusives and is the most user friendly in my opinion. I am not going to buy another console for only one game, no matter how amazing. I know Platinum is saying they want to expand their fan base for Bayonetta, and I'm sure that with Nintendo, owning by far the largest part of the gaming market, that is possible. But they are abandoning a large number of the fans of the original game. I wish they would have postponed Bayonetta 2 until a publisher who would make it multi-platform. I don't mind Nintendo having Bayonetta, I mind that they are the only ones who have Bayonetta and I'm certainly not the only one. I don't write this out of spite like many of the hate comments about this news, but I think that this was a poor decision on Platinum's part to completely leave behind their established fan base. I also believe that if Bayonetta went exclusive, Nintendo is not the right console for it, at least not oversees; I don't know how Sony stacks up against Nintendo in Japan, but in North America Nintendo makes consoles for young children. All the hardcore gamers are on PS3 or 360; I've never meet a person who owned a Nintendo console who came close to being as passionate about games as a Sony or Microsoft gamer. I'm not saying that all Nintendo gamers are less passionate about game, but Nintendo doesn't seem to be the right place for a angel killing witch, extremely sexy angle killing witch. I just hope that at some point Platinum can ditch this Nintendo publishing their games thing, and actually allow their fans to play the game they have been waiting for for years.

kevin montague Posted on January 11, 2013 at 6:47 am

i love bayonetta but please dont let us ps3 and xbox gamers last glimpse of bayonetta be on anarchy reigns we deserve a chance to play it just like the gamers on Wii u please you wont regreat it

Kenneth Posted on January 12, 2013 at 8:22 pm

I’m really excited about this game. Bayonetta was an exquisite piece of gaming. However, I don’t think I’ll ever get the opportunity to play it. At least not within the next 6 years. I can’t afford to spend on new systems, especially not at release. It’s expensive for someone who is going to school or on their own to do such things, and it really does hit people who enjoyed the first game hard. I’m glad your making it, but I do feel alienated, I can barely afford new games, much less new systems. Hopefully this sees a multi platform release in the future. Don’t care what anyone says, it can happen. Sadly, the only nintendo systems I was ever a fan of were the SNES and the Gamecube. The Wii had nothing I wanted on it, and same goes for the WiiU, well except this. But that’s really it.

E-mail for the attention of Platinium Games.

I read with attention the comment of the President of your firm concerning the release of BAYONETTA 2 exclusively on WII U. We are June 20th, 2013, we have to admit the inevitable the failure future of a title so brilliant. Everybody knows him, even the President from NINTENDO admits it the WII U is a commercial failure. During this last E3 she was forgotten, it is almost a born dead console! The title BAYONETTA 2 is going to suffer from this failure, is will be very probably a failure which will weigh heavy on Plantinium! He would be tall time to revise your copy to make share BAYONETTA 2 XBOX 360 AND PS3, to sell a bigger number of copy. UBISOFT France in already eliminated the exclusivity WII U of the title RAYMAN LEGEND because already understood the failure of the title if the exclusivity half-wit. BAYONETTA is one of your spearhead at PLATINIUM, he would have to can remain…
A fan of objective BAYONETTA…. (France)

I just wanted to say 'thank you' to you all at Platinum Games for your hard work on Bayonetta 2. I have been a lifelong Nintendo fan and do not generally purchase other consoles (mainly because Sony & Microsoft consoles are well known for having too many generic games). Nintendo has always been the home of creative and innovative games and in many ways, Nintendo is like the 'punk rock' of gaming. Anyways, I think I speak for many other Nintendo fans when I say we eagerly look forward to some amazing games like Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, and hopefully future projects as well.

I just really hope this game have good sales, which is unlikely to happen knowing Nintendo's users usually just buy first party games. Platinum Games deserves much more attention than they got the past generation. Bayonetta did't sell that well, Vanquish didn't do better and they were excellent games. I'll just say I bought last week Anarchy Reigns and haven't found an online match since.
I know Bayonetta 2 will be gorgeous. Just hope it convinces Nintendo's fans.

Bayonetta 2 made me buy a WiiU! I don´t want that Platinum Games rush to finish the game in a specific date and compromise the quality of the game. Take your time!
Bayonetta 1 was one of the best games of last generation consoles!!

I drink of the tears of the butthurt and the port-beggars. Sony and Microsoft said no dice. Sega had pulled out. Bayonetta 2 wasn't going to be made at all. Then Nintendo offered, and Platinum accepted.

Back in the days of the N64, Square decided to make Final Fantasy for the Sony Playstation, instead of the N64, because they could do more with the game with CD tech as opposed to cartridges. Did the fanbase bitch? Some, but they sucked it up and bought the PS1 and played the damn game. Face facts… Nintendo offered to publish the game when NO ONE ELSE WOULD, and since you'll never play a legitimate Mario game on the PS4/XBone, the same rule applies. Port-begging Kamiya and family is pointless, got a complaint? Call 1-800-FIRST-WORLD PROBLEMS.

I'd say keep crying, because I love being entertained, but honestly, it's just pissing off the people who are working hard on various projects. So back off.
