METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE HITS THE VGAS!

METAL GEAR RISING

REBOOTED: METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING becomes METAL GEAR RISING

METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING’s E3 2010 trailer won numerous “Best Trailer” awards and drew praise worldwide. At the 2011 VGAs, the game re-emerged as METAL GEAR RISING with an all-new trailer.

METAL GEAR RISING is being developed through a partnership between Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, known for hit titles like Bayonetta and Vanquish, and this new development structure promises to set all-new standards for the action genre.

The main character, Raiden, was once feared as the child soldier “Jack the Ripper” on the front lines of the First Liberian Civil War. Now, his combat mastery is channeled through a cyborg body as the strikes from his high-frequency blade slice even massive assault drones in two.
Raiden is contracted for VIP protection, military training and other duties by PMSCs (Private Military and Security Companies) in a developing country piecing itself back together after a bloody civil war. Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs.

Reborn at the hands of PlatinumGames, METAL GEAR RISING pits cyborg against cyborg in battle that blazes past every human limit!

Amazing!
Can't wait!

Caio Posted on December 11, 2011 at 12:40 pm

I was waiting for a Bayonetta sequence, but it's nice too.

Threnody Posted on December 11, 2011 at 12:57 pm

This game is already a must buy for me, but… please tell us Kamiya-san is directing! Please!

Roto13 Posted on December 11, 2011 at 1:13 pm

But who is directing it? If it were Kamiya, I'm sure his name would be all over that trailer.

tuhi009 Posted on December 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Metal Gear Solid RISING was also announced for the PC. Is the PC version still in development?

justSamurai Posted on December 11, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Concept and feel of 2010 trailer was unique and a thousand times better than the new trailer. I am disappointed. Is this Bayonetta in Metal Gear skin?

K-BAN Posted on December 11, 2011 at 10:06 pm

I'm VERY upset with this new trailer. I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, but this Rising game now doesnt look like its being taken seriously. We all knew there was going to be high violence in the game, now it seems that's all the game is going for. Shock value and blood. "Let's see how many times we can slice a guy at super speed." Im surprised there isnt a combo counter on the side. This now looks too hyper Japanese instead of the realistic, fluid motion the E3 2010 trailer had. Dare I say a fighting ballet just like the Vamp and Raiden fight in MGS4. I guess it's too late to go back to that with this game. Will there be a Dragonball Z cameo too? This is very depressing 8(

gaspare Posted on December 11, 2011 at 11:48 pm

You guyz are amazing !!!! I'm glad to hear about it. But please what's going on with Anarchy Reigns, it has been too long with no news from your side

David No.1 Posted on December 12, 2011 at 12:00 am

Andriasang.com has reported that Hideki Kamiya is not directing this game. I do wish you were Mr Hideki Kamiya!

But yes!, I'm hyped! I loved Bayonetta and Vanqush very much!

Eriksharp Posted on December 12, 2011 at 2:56 am

Holy shit, it's amazing. METAL GEAR RISING looks pretty good. If this project is in the hands of Platinum "God" Games, this project is going to be legendary. Thanks platinum I hope an amazing hack and slash like Bayonetta with Metal Gear Series Universe.
I like the Katana.

Danny Posted on December 12, 2011 at 5:18 am

No offense guys but you ruined Metal Gear Solid Rising.

The Dude Posted on December 12, 2011 at 10:38 am

Pure crap, u ruined Metal Gear.

The E3 2010 MGS Rising Trailer+Gameplay was over 9000 times better than this!

reech Posted on December 12, 2011 at 12:56 pm

i was hoping more for vanquish 2, but this looks to fill the gap just perfectly. absolutely beautiful. people will complain, but i can't wait.

Erte -San Posted on December 12, 2011 at 10:03 pm

Super looks genuine, which is Raiden from a boy to an ultimative killing machine mutated. The diagram looks genuinly good and makes mood now already to play the play. I wish good success to the developers.

PAUL Posted on December 12, 2011 at 11:10 pm

what have you done to the METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING ? it much better if its the original concept.. im really sorry but this game is really such a disappointment..

I really hope that you will still revised this game..

Snaaaaake! Posted on December 13, 2011 at 12:41 am

Alright, Platinum. I love you guys, and this trailer looks awesome, but it doesn't look like Metal Gear. It looks like a very Platinum Games style action game, and while I love that, it's not a true fit for Metal Gear and its world. While I love games like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden, I expect something more tactical from my Metal Gear experience. Take this under consideration from a hard-core Metal Gear Solid fan.

Too-Good-For-A-Name Posted on December 13, 2011 at 1:03 am

I wish you could have directed your attention to Devil May Cry instead. Dante needs your help. He's being held prisoner by Ninja Theory while the vampire kid from Twilight is running around claiming to be him. If I saw a trailer with the real white haired Dante kicking demon ass and eating pizza with a message at the end reading "Developed by Platinum Games", I would pee myself of excitement.

Josh Posted on December 13, 2011 at 1:59 am

Awesome, but please don't forget about Bayonetta!

Muju Posted on December 13, 2011 at 7:01 am

Makes me sick, thanks for ruining Metal Gear franchise.
"Let's have fun", come on, Raiden would never say kiddy crap like this.

andreasorschulok Posted on December 13, 2011 at 7:35 am

Looks beautiful! Loved Bayonetta and Vanquish, will buy this one too! Thanks for this great surprise announcement:-))

wertyes9 Posted on December 13, 2011 at 10:01 pm

This is not what I expected from Metal Gear Rising.

xDevilx Posted on December 14, 2011 at 3:01 am

Not Pc ?? ¬¬

kprata Posted on December 14, 2011 at 4:24 am

it will be for PC?

marlon Posted on December 14, 2011 at 7:26 am

Many Westerns are missing the point here
It seems westerns skip cut scenes and have not seen how Raiden actually fights in MGS4
Do you miss METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING?
You think METAL GEAR RISING is over the top?

Check how Raiden break dances with geckos attached to his feet, and how he stops the titanic/outer heaven to save snake in MGS4.

Than come back and dare to post that MGR is over the top.

Western drones,stick to your FPS!

    D-san Posted on December 18, 2011 at 8:00 am

I think you're missing a crucial part of the puzzle (and this Westerner hates first person shooters, so take this as criticism from a 10 year + Metal Gear Solid fan). In MGS4, all of the spectacular swordplay and over-the-top violence was matched by an emotional human element that made us love the characters. There's a reason people have as great an attachment to Solid Snake and Raiden as they do – the relation gamers have to characters like Bayonetta is completely different. Yeah, Raiden took on a platoon of Gekkos and a super-powered Vamp in MGS4, all the while flipping and dancing and acting like a gatdamn Super Saiyan, but he was mortally wounded and expressed a cold fatalism that revealed the price he paid for his power. It was the same thing when he stopped Outer Heaven from crushing Snake – he did so knowing he might die, hoping he could redeem himself on the battlefield.

These are all important moments, and hearing Raiden spout ridiculous catchphrases like a hyperactive anime staple is odd. Kojima was a master at matching power to responsibility, violence with regret. We're not seeing that in these MGR trailers. Most of the Western "drones" you're insulting play the MGS series because of the heart at the core of each game's story. We're worried that said heart might be missing, that's all.

      60Hz Posted on December 21, 2011 at 4:12 am

Um… there was none of that in the 1st trailer of Rising… and the fact that the same story guy is working on this one would mean that the gameplay change is greater than the story change… and judging from what KOJIMA himself has said, there was NO GAME in the 1st one (it was basically super fruit ninja), which is obvious if you watch the old trailer (which had NO STORY ELEMENTS, so not sure how you can conclude that this is any different).

And no one liners in MGS??? really??? These are all from the FIRST ONE…

Revolver Ocelot's "There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber…"

Liquid Snake: Ask the father that you killed. I'll send you to hell to meet him.

Solid Snake: You wanna pull each other's ears?

Gray Fox: I am like you. I have no name.

Solid Snake: I never felt truly alive unless I was staring death in the face.

Solid Snake: It looks like they were cut by some type of blade!

I like MGS, but a pinnacle of literary excellence it is not… some folks can convince themselves otherwise but if you actually scrutinize the plot and dialogue you will find it doesn't hold up to the worse action movies…

        J/K Posted on April 23, 2012 at 6:36 am

A handful of one-liners from a game over a decade old is not the same as this game being riddled with enough one-liners and bad dialogue to fill every script of every action film released in the 1980's. And that's just from the trailer alone…

Emir Posted on December 15, 2011 at 4:53 am

Theres a PC version right?

DemonFAUNA Posted on December 15, 2011 at 12:41 pm

PG* + KP + MG RISING = the straight up wicked sickest thing ever!!! The two best developers in the world collaborating on the coolest game ever is too good to be true. Full-fledged artbook & Special Edition please!

Matias Posted on December 17, 2011 at 12:28 am

I've noticed the logo looks a bit like the MAME logo.

Kaffeebohnson Posted on December 18, 2011 at 12:19 am

This is pretty much exactly what I wanted out of Metal Gear Solid: Rising. I am sure you will create much better gameplay than the original version had. This will be a fantastic action game!

The only thing I wish for: Could you try to match the graphics of the 2010 Trailer a little more closely? The new version just looks a bit off, with its orange tint. And the new Logo? It's not that big of a deal, but come on, you too have to agree that the old one is better by a wide margin! The new one lacks the style and subtlety of the original. (This can be said for the trailer as well – not neccesarily in a bad way, but it's kind of a bummer, nevertheless.)

I hope you treat the tragic character of Raiden with respect. Don't make him into a catchphrase shouting cartoon actionfigure! Please try to marry your unique gameplay with Kojima Productions unique storytelling, ok? Don't just throw everything away they worked so hard on. If both teams get to do the job they are best at, I can't wait to see the final game!

Ofaliss Posted on December 18, 2011 at 6:34 pm

A game's name doesn't dictate my interest in it. Gameplay and the people involved in its development does.

I can not wait to play this game.

60Hz Posted on December 20, 2011 at 11:39 am

It's on!

Maurice Posted on December 22, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Feels very similar to Vanquish. I'll give this one a look. How long for a playable demo?

Nick Posted on January 6, 2012 at 8:43 am

I suspect that Hideo Kojima and team were failing miserably to create something new. They copied that Afro Samurai gimic and couldn't get any further, am I right? They desperately needed help on a budget, and in comes Platinum Games to save the day. (I mean that as an honest compliment to you guys).

It's really too bad you couldn't just focus on Vanquish II with alternate suits (Gun Play, Sword Play, Aerial boosts etc.) …

I also very much look forward to a new Bayonetta and a deeper melding of the Genres in your sequels. I wish some rich investor would just provide you with infinite cash flow to make the best games possible because as it stands, the PG Team is simply the best there is.

Love you guys ;)

Cobra Posted on January 6, 2012 at 10:00 am

I think Kojima will lose most his MGS gamers, MGS fans, global public by making this mistake.

Cobra Posted on January 7, 2012 at 11:54 am

Anyway, Platinum work is really big, nice collar. Props to the team. I admit I'm a Devil May Cry fan. :)

yov023 Posted on January 9, 2012 at 3:48 pm

This does not have the right to have Metal Gear next to it . It had potential when they released the first trailer but now it seems way to hack and slash. its just not the way metal gear should be seems like it's not true to the Metal Gear series .. i hope they change a fair bit because I'm sure a lot of people will be disappointed. I never though anything with Metal Gear was going to be compared to Bayonetta … how i was wrong :(

Solidus Ocelot Posted on January 11, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Please tone down the over-the-top action sequences. It's ok for boss battles and a few cut scenes but all the button-bashing jumping around just gets old really quickly (and yes, I know Raiden stopped a ship in MSG4, but it was only once and I try to forget that scene!) As Raiden's a ninja-style character, why can't he attack with both speed and stealth? I know it wasn't the best game, but Batman Begins on the PS2 had a pretty good 'stalking from the shaddows' idea and the attacks were quick, usually picking off opponents one by one. This attacking from the shaddows idea would work so well with Rising.

SirMilagres Posted on January 13, 2012 at 9:54 pm

i enjoyed the trailer but really didn't like raiden multislashing the gecko. It looked…. fake. I mean, remember MGS4 trailer, the fight with vamp and all the geckos? Raiden had a much cooler (and direct) way to kill the geckos. Hope you guys improve that

jericho Posted on January 21, 2012 at 6:30 pm

lot of blood, lot of flashy special effect, a lot of exageration, and a lot of bullshit.

If it was a game with a new concept i would say this looks very good. But it's not a new concept. It's Metal Gear and you are RUINING it.

The previous trailer last year was more realistic and in the same state of mind as Metal Gear. Now it's just a Bayonetta with Raiden instead, in a MGS 4 environment.

Idiots. Thanks for ruining our chance to play raiden in a genuine MGS game.

Solidus Ocelot Posted on January 23, 2012 at 3:54 am

Just pondering something…anyone else think that this may not be Raiden but a clone instead? It would make sense as to why he's still a cyborg in this game and would distance MGR from the 'Solid' series by essentially creating a new character. It would also help explain differences in combat technique and the ferocity of his attacks when compared to Raiden in MSG4.

casey Posted on March 20, 2012 at 11:22 am

After you guys make alot of money off of metal gear risen.Put that money into vanquish 2 pretty clever huh then it will really be noticed…yaaaaaaaaay lol, please work on a vanquish 2 its was a great game dont let it go to waste….

J/K Posted on April 23, 2012 at 6:49 am

Looks more like a generic, over-the-top, action anime than a Metal Gear game. Guess this will win over a few people, and distance a lot of core Metal Gear fans…

Damn, I feel like I’ve been waiting so long for this game to come out, and a single trailer dashed all that anticipation. Hopefully future info will make this one more appealing.
