A Different Kind of Game

Filed: Community, Games, PlatinumGames, Vanquish

Vanquish has four difficulty settings to choose from. One that is surprisingly fun is Casual Automatic mode. Before we started work on it, I can’t say that I had high hopes; however, once we got it up and running, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was wrong. Once you get your target on the enemy, the rest is easy as pie. I’m sure saying it that way makes it sound totally uninteresting, but when you actually give it a shot, the tempo it gives the game play will make you jump up and say, “Woohoo!”

Yet, I still have to say my recommended difficulty is normal. It takes some time to get used to aiming and firing at enemies on your own, but we’ve fine-tuned the aiming controls, so you should be fine. I have a feeling you will be finding yourself in some very pitched battles.

Finally, we have GOD HARD mode. I think our fans will get where this one is going. This mode is only for the chosen few (you can’t select it on your first play through). If you are a bit of a masochist, I think you will have a good time. It is something for our fans to look forward to.

I hope it constantly says "DIE" in the bottom left side of the screen while you are playing in God Hard mode.

I'll stick with normal for now, if it really takes time to get used to the aiming and fire system I think it best to start slow.

God Hard, eh? There's that P* sadism we've all come to love….

Anything that is that close to GOD HAND (the greatest game ever made by the way!) is okay in my book! GOD HARD mode sounds fun.

God Hand!!!

Mr Mikami !

I was wondering if you guys were gonna add a campain COOP mode to Vanquish. Kinda feels it'll be a bit hard due to the chaotic fastpaced action occuring on screen but it would be somewhat of an epic achievement for such a game. Imagine two players going through GOD HARD mode and being both frustrated but enjoying this crazy experience : )

Good luck on the project !

How does Casual Automatic compare to autoaim?

Release a demo with multiple difficulty modes pleeeeeeease! (and release it soon so we can play the hell out of it until the final game is released!)

The wait is so painful!

The first thing that came into mind when reading "GOD HARD" was Godhand…

Other than that, the difficulty levels themselves should satisfy a variety amount of beginners to hardcore players but will there be some sort of special mechanic we'll be introduced throughout the game? Perhaps weapon upgrades or combination?

Thank you so much! I play games on EASY just for the experience (I don't play to get angry / frustrated / get a headache, like games that are too hard)…

wow, the background for main menu looks epic, kinda like some kind of RPG, well it got that japanese ambience & art style there

I want to play in the normal way, but it's ok. Maybe that game can be the best generation game. Gambare Mikami! :D

Can we expect a demo of Vanquish any time soon? Really looking forward to Vanquish :)

P* I love your games, and I loved all the games you guys did at clover studios like viewtiful joe, Okami, resident evil, God Hand, DMC, and others.

I'm glad you'll be including GOD HARD mode for people like me who missed the good ol' days when games weren't casual. I also like how you are including automatic easy mode so it can appeal to a larger audience thus selling more to support yourselves without wrecking the people who like difficult game's enjoyment, like myself..

That,s a great idea. Though I’m not much of a gamer but I will definitely try this tool in some

other directions connected with flash format. Thanks for sharing.

I still don't understand the reason for including a "casual auto" difficulty level in a Mature rated game that's not being released on the Wii. Somebody here told me that it allows physically disabled players to have fun with the game (we were discussing Bayonetta back then), somehow making the tacit point that games like Gears of War, Halo, Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Bros. Wii, among many many more, are discriminating or ignoring them or something. Besides, because of the game's subject matter, it clearly won't make a difference in regards to game sales (Bayonetta's numbers are proof of that).

@chaosanglezero: bayonetta's numbers were pretty good, so obviously it did help… not sure how adding an easy mode should effect the game sales negatively tho, so they may as well add it, plus if he says it makes it more fun go for it…

I just wanted to say that I found your blog via Google and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to bookmark you for when I have more free time away from the books. Thanks again!
