Filed: Community, PlatinumGames

PlatinumGames.com is home to all the information you could want to know about PlatinumGames, our creators, and our titles. We recently updated PlatinumGames.co.jp to reflect our new corporate logo with a new design that features some user interactivity. PlatinumGames.com is this idea on a whole new level, tailored to fit the expectations of our fans outside of Japan.

Japanese game companies are notorious for not “getting it”. They are thought of as slow moving, orthodox, and out of touch. One of the places where Japanese companies seem to not “get it” is community. Sure, you may have an American branch leading a great community effort, but it is very rare for a Japanese company to reach out in a meaningful way to its Western users.

PlatinumGames.com is our attempt at getting it right. It isn’t simply a translation of our Japanese webpage. It is part corporate homepage, part purpose built community portal. We want you to know who we are, but we also want to know who you are. PlatinumGames is not only about our creators, or our titles, it is about our fans. We want you to gather around our titles and interact with PlatinumGames staff and other fans. We want to involve you in our process of creation, and we want to be involved in your experience after you’ve paid your hard earned dollars for the fruits of our hard work. A game really isn’t finished until a user is finished playing it. We want to be there with you every step of the way.

PlatinumGames wasn’t built on some arcane system requiring multiple logins and draconian moderation. It’s built on proven, open tools like WordPress, to make it easy for you to interact with us. We’re on Twitter, Flickr, and Facebook, so you can access and interact with our content from wherever you’d like. You can even access PlatinumGames.com from your iPhone or other Smartphone browser on the go. All of these tools provide a great way to interact with us; however, we also want you to interact with each other as well. That is why we’ve integrated a forum system where you can talk about what interests you. We’ll hop into the discussions from time to time as well.

While our blogs and forums are a big part of the site, we realize you might want to actually see and hear from us. That is why we’ve created PGTV, our video podcast series that will give you an inside look at PlatinumGames and a seat at the table with our most talented creators. From interviews to behind the scenes looks, it will be the source of some of our most exciting content. Finally, we want to meet and greet as many of you as we can, so we plan on having community get-togethers whenever we get the chance, be it in LA, London, or Leipzig.

So welcome to our grand experiment. Its success depends on you.

THE MADWORLD BLOG

MADWORLD

Filed: Games, MadWorld

Hello. I’m Atsushi Inaba, producer of MADWORLD.

Today marks the start of the MADWORLD Blog.
This blog should give you an insight into quite a few areas:
How did they make this crazy game?
What the hell were they thinking while making this crazy game?

First, I need to say something. Something you need to know before we get into the nuts and bolts of the game.
We haven’t announced a release for the game in Japan.
We also have no plans to release the game in Germany.

I suspect that Japanese or German fans may read this blog and feel a bit disappointed; however, when it comes to forms of expression, every country and generation has different views on the subject. It simply can’t be helped. I’ve covered this topic quite seriously in interviews before, but I thought this blog would also be an good place to further explain.

MADWORLD is all about the idea of Comical Violence. We wanted to entertain via this concept, where everything is presented in comic book style, and the crazy things happening are completely unrealistic in a real world context.

I’m sure there are arguments for or against this, but by dealing with violence in a straight-forward manner, I think we’ve made it more palatable. We don’t have any of the vividness or spite of real-world violence, and that was something that we’ve held firm on since the beginning of development.

So how did we end up making this game, and what makes MADWORLD so fun right now? That will be covered in posts to come.

I really hope that you enjoy future entries in the MADWORLD blog!

Happy New Year

Platinum Games

Filed: PlatinumGames

Happy New Year everyone!
I’m Tatsuya Minami, President and CEO of PlatinumGames.

This year is going to make a turning point for us.
The titles we began when we started the company will finally be released this year. As was the case last year, it is predicted that this year will also see a recession, and the impact on the games and entertainment industry is expected to be considerable. However, I feel that the high quality, high value titles we are aiming to create are needed at times like these.

So to mark this turning point for the company, we have created a new logo.
We needed a new logo for our continued global expansion, and we also needed something new to show that we are enthusiastic and ready to head out and challenge the world.

The P in the logo, and the star next to it, are inspired by the Pt atomic symbol. Furthermore, the star is meant to signify Polaris, the current North Star, and the brightest star in the Little Dipper. We also chose a distinctive color for the logo, Platinum Silver. These choices have allowed us to express with the logo our shared ideals of high quality and lasting value.

This year, several of our titles will be released.
There are many emotions that come with releasing our first title out into the world, but we have absolutely no doubts about the contents of our titles and the vision that created them. Along with our new logo, we want to keep moving forward guided by our consistent values.

We hope you will join us this year.
